The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has inaugurated a new Passport Application Centre in Dambai, Oti Region, significantly improving access to passport services for residents who previously had to travel long distances to Accra or Ho.
Commissioning the facility on Monday, December 29, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the centre is a major step in the government’s decentralisation agenda, aimed at delivering faster, more transparent and citizen-focused public services.
He noted that applicants in the region will now benefit from shorter processing times, electronic tracking, courier delivery and expedited services, with passports expected within 15 days.
The Minister also assured the public of strengthened security measures, particularly due to Oti’s border location, stressing that safeguards have been put in place to protect the integrity of Ghanaian passports.
He further urged applicants to avoid middlemen, emphasising that the process is simple and fully transparent.
Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong described the project as a clear response to long-standing concerns of residents, while Krachi East MP Nelson Kofi Djabab said the centre promotes fairness in regional development.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by traditional authorities, security heads, Members of Parliament, local government officials and religious leaders. The Dambai centre forms part of a nationwide rollout of modern passport facilities to ensure equitable access to services across all regions.
