The Supreme Court has suspended the re-run of the Kpandai Constituency parliamentary election, halting all preparations by the Electoral Commission until the hearing of a Certiorari application on January 13, 2026.
The suspension follows an application by Kpandai MP Mathew Nyindam challenging the Tamale High Court’s annulment of the December 7, 2024 election results, which had favoured NDC candidate Daniel Nsala Wakpal. Nyindam argues that the High Court lacked jurisdiction over Wakpal’s petition and is seeking a judicial review to quash the ruling and all related proceedings.
After the High Court decision, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) successfully obtained a stay of execution to prevent the Electoral Commission and the NDC from acting on the annulment while the Supreme Court considers the matter.
The party has stated it will await the court’s ruling before determining its next steps and has pledged to act decisively depending on the outcome.
Meanwhile, a recent poll by Global InfoAnalytics shows Nyindam with a narrow lead, securing 50% support compared to Wakpal’s 46%, highlighting the tight contest ahead of the scheduled re-run.
The suspension adds another chapter to the ongoing political tension in Kpandai, where the constituency has become a focal point of legal and parliamentary disputes in recent weeks.
