The former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has picked the number one position on the ballot for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National First Vice Chairman race.
The party’s Elections Committee conducted balloting for the 13 aspirants contesting the position ahead of the NPP’s national executive elections scheduled for October 3, 2026, in Kumasi.
Speaking after the exercise, a representative of the Hamid for First Vice Campaign 2026, Faisal Ibrahim Cisse, said the campaign team had hoped to secure the number one position on the ballot.
According to him, picking number one aligns with the team’s objective of winning the First Vice Chairman position to support the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in his bid to become President in 2028.
“Our target and objective was to pick number one because we are seeking the First Vice position to come and help the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, become President,” Mr Cisse said.
He described the balloting exercise as the “first show”, adding that the decisive contest would take place on October 3 in Kumasi when delegates elect the party’s national executives.
“This is the first show, and the second show will happen on October 3 in Kumasi,” he stated.
Mr Cisse also commended the NPP Elections Committee for what he described as the fair and transparent manner in which the balloting exercise was conducted.
Dr Abdul-Hamid is among 13 aspirants seeking to become the next National First Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party.
Delegates are expected to elect First, Second and Third Vice chairmen come October 3.
