Management of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has signed a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with local labour unions representing staff, marking the first such agreement at the refinery since 2018.
The agreement, signed on Wednesday, July 9, 2026, represents a significant milestone in TOR’s industrial relations history and underscores management’s commitment to improving staff welfare and strengthening labour relations within the organisation.
TOR Management described employee remuneration and welfare as critical factors in motivating staff and sustaining productivity, noting that the agreement would serve as a major boost to morale among workers at the refinery.
The signing ceremony was attended by key officials of the refinery, including Board Chairman, Nayon Bilijo, a member of the Board of Directors, Managing Director Edmond Kombat, the Deputy Managing Director, and the Board Secretary.
Representatives of the national labour unions also participated in the event, including the General Secretary of the General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers’ Union (GTPCWU), the Union’s Industrial Relations Officer, and the National Industrial Officer of the Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance Workers (UNICOF).
Leaders of the local unions were also present and played a central role throughout the negotiation and finalisation of the agreement.
Management indicated that the negotiation process was guided by principles of transparency, inclusiveness and good governance, with all relevant stakeholders actively involved at every stage leading to the successful conclusion of the agreement.
