More than 2,000 seized and surrendered firearms have been destroyed as part of Ghana’s efforts to curb gun violence and promote national peace and security.
The exercise forms part of the 8th National Arms Destruction Ceremony organised under the theme: “Silencing the Guns Through Destruction for a Peaceful, Safe and Gun Violence Free Ghana.”
The ceremony is being led by the Small Arms Commission in collaboration with its partners, including the Ghana Police Service and the HALO Trust.
The Chief of Staff, Dr Julius Debrah, the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak -Muntaka, security chiefs and other dignitaries were present to witness and receive briefings on the destruction process.
The initiative is aimed at removing illegal and unwanted firearms from circulation, strengthening public safety and supporting Ghana’s commitment to responsible arms management.
Officials at the event emphasised the importance of continued collaboration among security agencies, state institutions and communities to prevent the proliferation and misuse of small arms.
