The President and Founder of the UP Tradition Institute, Ghana, Dr Razak Kojo Opoku, has raised concerns over what he described as the differing attitudes of Ghanaians towards the success of local entrepreneurs and foreign investors.
According to Dr. Opoku, there appears to be a tendency among some Ghanaians to celebrate the achievements of foreign businesses as evidence of investor confidence in the country, while subjecting the success of indigenous entrepreneurs to heightened scrutiny and unnecessary suspicion.
He noted that when foreign nationals achieve business success in Ghana, many people are quick to describe it as a positive sign of confidence in the country’s economy and investment climate.
However, he argued that when fellow Ghanaians attain similar levels of success, questions are often raised about probity, accountability and transparency surrounding their achievements.
Dr. Opoku in a statement on his Facebook wall stressed the need for a change in mindset, urging Ghanaians to support and celebrate the accomplishments of local entrepreneurs in the same manner they applaud foreign investors.
He emphasized that encouraging and empowering indigenous businesses is essential for economic growth, job creation and sustainable national development.
