Waste management company Zoomlion Ghana Limited has thrown its support behind the government’s decision to declare July 10 and 11, 2026, as National General Cleaning Days in flood-affected regions across the country.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the company commended President John Dramani Mahama for what it described as a timely and decisive intervention following the recent floods that affected several communities.
Zoomlion said the initiative reflects a strong commitment by government to protecting lives, safeguarding public health and improving environmental sanitation in affected areas.
The company announced that it has activated its nationwide operational network and is placing its regional, district and municipal offices, as well as its fleet of equipment and personnel, at the disposal of the exercise following consultations with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
According to the company, its support will include the deployment of sanitation personnel, waste collection trucks, skip containers, compactors and other heavy-duty equipment to assist Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies and affected communities.
The company also pledged to support the evacuation and safe disposal of waste and silt, undertake desilting of drains and waterways, clean roads and public spaces, and carry out disinfection and sanitisation exercises to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks in flood-hit areas.
Zoomlion further assured government that its support would extend beyond the two-day exercise where necessary to ensure affected communities are restored to safe and healthy conditions.
The company noted that the recent floods serve as a reminder that environmental sanitation is a shared responsibility requiring collaboration among government institutions, the private sector, traditional authorities, civil society organisations and citizens.
It therefore called on residents, businesses, institutions and community leaders to actively participate in the clean-up exercise to help restore affected communities and build resilience against future disasters.
