A 26-year-old private legal practitioner, Sara Araba Tettey, has died after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest during celebrations following Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Panama in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, as fans gathered to celebrate the Black Stars’ dramatic opening win.
Ms. Tettey, an alumna of the Faculty of Law at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was called to the Ghana Bar earlier this year and was working as an associate at O & A Legal Consult.
According to sources, she was watching the match with friends at Standard Hostel, a private student accommodation near the KNUST campus at Bomso in the Ashanti Region, when she suddenly became unresponsive shortly after the final whistle.
She was immediately rushed to the KNUST Hospital, where medical personnel attempted to revive her using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for about 45 minutes.
However, she was pronounced dead despite the efforts.
Friends and former classmates have described her, popularly known as Araba Tettey, as hardworking, focused, and deeply committed to her legal career.
Her body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary, pending an autopsy and further funeral arrangements.
