Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has expressed confidence in his readiness for the Black Stars’ crucial FIFA World Cup Group L encounter against England on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated fixture, Partey emphasised the importance of mental strength and determination in preparing for matches at the highest level.
According to the midfielder, success on the pitch depends largely on a player’s mindset and willingness to give their best whenever called upon.
“Everything is mental. You have to be ready for whatever comes your way. Once your body is able to cope, you just give your best and that’s it,” he said.
Partey missed Ghana’s opening Group L match against Panama due to immigration-related challenges in Canada, preventing him from joining the squad in time for the game.
Despite his absence, the Black Stars secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory, with a late goal earning Ghana all three points in their tournament opener.
Reflecting on the circumstances that kept him out of the match, Partey described the situation as one of the unpredictable aspects of football and indicated that he has put the setback behind him.
“Things happen in football that you cannot control. For me, I feel okay now and I’m ready to play,” he told reporters.
His return is expected to provide a major boost for the Black Stars as they prepare to face a strong England side in a match that could have significant implications for qualification from Group L.
Both teams will be aiming for a positive result as they seek to strengthen their positions in the race for a place in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, being hosted by Canada, United States and Mexico.
