The National Identification Authority (NIA) has established a registration centre in Spain to enable Ghanaians living in the country to register for and obtain the Ghanacard.
The initiative marks a significant step in expanding access to Ghana’s national identification system for citizens living abroad and forms part of efforts to enhance identification services for the Ghanaian diaspora.
Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain, Her Excellency Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe, officially handed over the first Ghanacard issued through the new centre to a Ghanaian applicant, marking the commencement of the registration exercise in the European country.
The NIA has encouraged Ghanaians residing in Spain who are yet to obtain the national identity card to begin the application process through the authority’s online registration platform.
According to the Authority, applicants are required to complete the online registration process, after which officials from the NIA headquarters in Accra will conduct an interview and guide them through the necessary steps before they visit the registration centre to complete the issuance process.
