The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has assured employees of Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) that the June 29 floods will not cost anyone their job, ending uncertainty after management’s earlier decision to suspend all staff contracts was reversed by the Ministry.
Speaking to the Board, management and staff on Monday, July 13, 2026, the Minister gave a direct assurance: “We are not laying off any staff of GDCL, whether temporarily or permanently, because of the flood. Every one of you is assured of the continuity of your jobs.”
He stressed, however, that the company must emerge stronger from the disaster, describing the moment as “the reset of the reset” and warning that “it’s not going to be business as usual.” He urged every employee to contribute to rebuilding the organisation into a commercially successful enterprise.
Mr. George said GDCL has the resources to become financially sustainable and made it clear that management would be expected to deliver results. “With the assets you hold, there is no excuse for GDCL not to be profitable… It will not fail, not under my watch,” he stated.
The Accra Digital Centre, home to technology companies and start-ups, is continuing recovery efforts after floodwaters disrupted operations, with government support aimed at restoring business confidence and strengthening the Centre’s long-term future.
