Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged Ghanaians living abroad to register with Ghana’s diplomatic missions, saying the move would help them remain connected to home and access support when needed.

She made the call during an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Kigali, Rwanda, where she also outlined government’s development priorities under the Reset Agenda.

“While in Kigali, Rwanda, I met members of the Ghanaian community to discuss their experiences abroad and developments back home,” she said.

“I encouraged Ghanaians living abroad to register with our diplomatic missions, which helps them stay connected and provides support when needed.”

The Vice President said government’s focus was on stabilising the economy, promoting prudent spending and ensuring that development reaches communities across the country.

“Our approach is to build from the ground up so that national development reaches communities,” she said.

She identified road infrastructure as a key priority, noting that “good roads support virtually every aspect of development.”

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also highlighted government’s efforts to deepen decentralisation and channel more resources to local development through the District Assemblies Common Fund.

On healthcare, she said government was pursuing universal healthcare through interventions including Free Primary Healthcare and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.

“Together with the uncapping of the National Health Insurance Scheme, these interventions aim to progressively close gaps in healthcare access,” she said.

She further said government was continuing to strengthen secondary education through dedicated and sustainable funding while addressing challenges that had affected performance.

The Vice President thanked the Ghanaian community in Rwanda for its warm reception and urged them to continue supporting one another.

“I encourage them to continue looking out for one another and to remain worthy ambassadors of our country,” she said.
