The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah has admonished his colleague government officials to adhere to the new Code of Conduct introduced by President John Dramani Mahama in order not to be used as scapegoats, if they are found to have violated any of the rules in the Codes.
Speaking at the launch of the Code on Monday May 5,2025, at the Jubilee House, Mr. Debrah underscored the essence of discipline and transparency in good governance hence the need for them to study the Codes very well so they do not fall victims.
“An aspect of governance is like running a boarding school, there needs to be Checks and Balances, rules and regulations like, don’t walk around during prep hours. The same thing applies to what we are doing here and so, I will encourage each and everyone of you, once you get your copy to study it just like your bible, because there shall never be any excuse or whatsoever when you cross the line’’, he told the appointees.
Mr. Debrah added that the only time the appointees will not have access to President Mahama will be when their appointments are about being terminated.
“I have heard some of you say he is my friend, trust me, even if you meander your way to reach him through his driver or ADC, the President will tell you, as for this Julius, this issue came up and I told him to wait, look at what he’s done, but he has written the letter already”, he noted.
He therefore pleaded with his colleagues not to let them have such an experience as a result of their lack of compliance to the Code.
The newly Code of Conduct for all government appointees launched by the President forms part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability in public office. The Code applies to all Ministers and their deputies, presidential staffers, Chief Executive Officers, board members, members of the Council of State and all other appointees serving under the Executive. It also binds the President and the Vice-President
