The Ambassador of Japan to Ghana, Yoshimoto Hiroshi, and Japan’s Director General and Assistant Minister of African Affairs, Misako Takahashi, have paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Staff at the Presidency to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and Japan.
The meeting focused on deepening cooperation between the two countries and exploring opportunities for collaboration in areas of mutual interest, in line with Japan’s strategic engagement with Africa.
During the discussions, the Japanese delegation outlined the three key pillars of Japan’s Africa diplomacy: promoting peace and stability across the continent, creating a virtuous cycle of economic growth between Africa and Japan, and fostering inclusive prosperity through youth empowerment and co-creation initiatives.
Ms. Takahashi commended the Government of Ghana for successfully completing its programme under the International Monetary Fund credit facility, describing it as an important achievement in the country’s economic recovery efforts.
She also praised the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Programme, noting its potential to stimulate economic activity, create jobs and support sustainable growth.
The meeting further explored opportunities for enhanced cooperation in areas including economic development, investment, youth empowerment and broader diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
On behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Chief of Staff expressed appreciation for Japan’s longstanding partnership with Ghana and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with the Asian nation.
The Chief of Staff assured the Japanese delegation of Ghana’s continued cooperation and collaboration with the Government of Japan, emphasizing the importance of the relationship in advancing shared development goals.
