The Ministry of Health has begun a two-day needs assessment and stakeholder engagement mission in Cape Coast as part of efforts to reduce maternal deaths across the country under the Maternal Mortality Action and Response Plan (MMARP).
The exercise is being led by the Deputy Minister for Health, Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, and forms part of government’s broader Free Primary Health Care agenda and its commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030.
The engagement brings together traditional leaders, chiefs, queen mothers, healthcare professionals, including doctors and midwives, as well as community groups to identify challenges and strengthen interventions aimed at improving maternal healthcare.
According to the Ministry, discussions will focus on enhancing emergency obstetric care, improving referral systems, and intensifying community education to ensure pregnant women receive timely and quality healthcare services.
