The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has issued a public notice cautioning prospective students, parents, and the general public against enrolling in or accepting certificates from a number of institutions it says are not recognised in Ghana as of June 2026.

In a statement dated Thursday, June 25, 2026, GTEC indicated that the listed institutions have not met its required quality assurance standards and are therefore not accredited to operate as recognised tertiary education providers in the country.

The Commission advised the public to exercise due diligence when dealing with certificates issued by such institutions, warning that qualifications obtained from them may not be valid for academic progression, employment, or professional recognition within Ghana.

The list includes institutions such as Atlantic International University, Swiss Management Centre University, LIGS University, and Monarch Business School, among several others across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa.

Local institutions such as Faith University Seminary, Doxa Open University, Kingdom Living Bible Institute in Kumasi, and other private entities in Ghana were also included in the list of unrecognised institutions.

GTEC stressed that the publication is part of its ongoing efforts to protect the integrity of tertiary education in Ghana and safeguard students from enrolling in unaccredited programmes.

The Commission further urged the public to verify the accreditation status of any tertiary institution through its official channels before enrolling, emphasising that due diligence is critical in avoiding academic and financial losses.

It added that regulatory action will continue as part of broader efforts to sanitise the tertiary education space and ensure compliance with national quality assurance standards.
