Ghana’s efforts to strengthen specialised cardiac healthcare have received a boost following an engagement between the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) and representatives from Centro Cardiologico Monzino IRCCS and the University of Milan in Italy.
The meeting, led by the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, focused on exploring areas of collaboration aimed at improving cardiovascular care delivery in Ghana.
Discussions centred on strengthening emergency cardiac response systems, point-of-care diagnostics, cardiac imaging, maternal heart health, and knowledge exchange to enhance the country’s ability to prevent, diagnose, and manage heart-related conditions.
The engagement also explored opportunities for advanced training, including interventional cardiology, as part of efforts to build local expertise and expand access to specialised cardiac services.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund said the collaboration forms part of its broader commitment to improving chronic disease care and ensuring that more patients have access to quality and specialised medical services.
The initiative is expected to support capacity building among Ghanaian health professionals while contributing to the development of a stronger cardiovascular care system in the country.
