The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, has disclosed that a new Cardio Centre is currently under construction at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
According to the Minister, the project is being undertaken through the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Cares, as part of efforts to expand access to specialised cardiac care in the country.
The new facility is expected to complement existing cardiac services at the teaching hospital and improve access to diagnosis and treatment for patients with cardiovascular conditions in the Ashanti Region and beyond. The leader of government communications made this disclosure in a statement of his Facebook wall on September 1, 2026
The development forms part of broader efforts under the Ghana Medical Trust Fund to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and provide critical medical support to Ghanaians.
The establishment of the Cardio Centre at KATH is expected to reduce the pressure on existing specialised cardiac facilities while bringing advanced cardiac services closer to patients in the middle and northern parts of the country.
Mr. Ofosu Kwakye’s disclosure highlights the government’s continued investment in specialised healthcare infrastructure through the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, with the initiative aimed at improving access to quality and affordable healthcare for Ghanaians.
