The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has started distributing fertiliser nationwide as part of efforts to increase agricultural production and support smallholder farmers during the current farming season.
Speaking before Parliament’s Committee on Assurances on Thursday, July 9, Food and Agriculture Minister Eric Opoku said every agricultural constituency has been allocated 1,500 bags under the programme.
The Minister explained that the intervention is intended to improve farmers’ access to key inputs, strengthen crop production and contribute to national food security, with particular attention to small-scale producers.
“We have recently distributed fertilisers to all the agricultural constituencies in this country. Every constituency has been given 1,500 bags. It is not even district, it is every constituency.”
Mr. Opoku acknowledged that some areas are yet to receive their allocations because deliveries by suppliers are still ongoing. However, he expressed confidence that the remaining consignments would reach their destinations by the end of next week.
“Those who have not received, maybe the contractors are still supplying, so they will receive theirs. But it is believed that by the close of next week, every district will have received the quantities we have assigned to them.”
He said the fertiliser distribution is part of the government’s broader plan to improve agricultural productivity by ensuring farmers receive essential inputs at the appropriate time.
