President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the newly built Ghana Medical Trust Fund Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at the National Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle- Bu Teaching Hospital, describing the facility as a significant step towards improving specialised healthcare delivery in Ghana.
The state-of-the-art laboratory, established with support from the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares), is expected to strengthen the country’s capacity to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions, including heart disease and stroke.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, President Mahama said the facility represents government’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare and ensuring that more Ghanaians receive advanced medical treatment locally.
The laboratory is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel abroad for cardiac procedures, lower the cost of specialised treatment and improve early detection and intervention for life-threatening conditions.
The facility will provide advanced diagnostic and interventional cardiac services to thousands of patients requiring specialised care and will complement existing efforts to improve Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure.
The inauguration forms part of government’s broader agenda to invest in critical health facilities, enhance medical capacity and improve health outcomes for citizens.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, established to address financing gaps in the treatment of chronic and specialised illnesses, continues to support initiatives aimed at expanding access to life-saving healthcare services across the country.
