The Paramount Queen Mother of Cape Coast, Nana Ekua Abookye VI, has expressed deep shock and concern over the recent murder of a student of the University of Cape Coast, and has called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
In a press statement issued by her office, the Queen Mother joined a growing chorus of opinion leaders and concerned citizens urging security agencies to conduct a thorough probe and ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
She reassured residents and visitors that Cape Coast remains a peaceful, friendly and welcoming city despite the unfortunate incident.
Nana Ekua Abookye VI appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and support law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious individuals and activities within their communities, including neighbourhoods, beaches, drinking spots, hotels and other public spaces.
The Queen Mother also expressed confidence in the ability of traditional authorities, security agencies and other stakeholders to work together to strengthen safety and security in the region.
She noted that traditional leaders would collaborate closely with the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and law enforcement agencies to enhance security measures, particularly within Cape Coast.
According to her, maintaining peace and security is critical to the city’s continued growth and reputation as one of Ghana’s leading tourism destinations, attracting thousands of local and international visitors each year.
Nana Ekua Abookye VI further extended her condolences to the bereaved family and urged the public to remain calm and allow investigators to carry out their work professionally.
