A municipal team comprising officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), road engineers and the Ghana Police Service has undertaken a series of activities aimed at improving infrastructure and addressing flooding challenges within the Awutu Senya East municipality in the Central Region.
The exercise, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Seth Banini formed part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety, improve road networks and strengthen flood prevention measures.
As part of the day’s activities, the team received a delegation from the Ghana Highway Authority on an official inspection tour of ongoing road works along the approximately 10-kilometre stretch from Congo-Villa Junction to Bawjiase.
The team also monitored ongoing dredging and desilting works across various parts of the municipality.
Together with road engineers, assessments were conducted in flood-prone communities and at drainage installations along the Columba Road near Opeikuma to determine appropriate interventions to prevent future flooding.
In addition, municipal authorities engaged residents affected by spill-over floodwaters within the Zongo and Newtown electoral areas. During the interaction, affected residents were informed of plans to construct a storm drain to address persistent flooding challenges in the communities.
The team later moved to the municipality’s administrative boundary with Ga South at Nurses’ Quarters, where officials assisted in managing vehicular and pedestrian traffic disruptions caused by flooding.
The intervention continued until water levels subsided and movement returned to normal.
The Municipal Chief Executive reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to providing responsive leadership and effective public service delivery, noting that efforts to improve infrastructure and protect lives and property would remain a priority.
He added that the Assembly would continue implementing measures aimed at enhancing resilience against flooding and improving the overall wellbeing of residents.
