A lifeless body has been discovered inside a commercial minibus, popularly known as a Trotro, at Alajo in Accra following the devastating floods triggered by Monday’s heavy rainfall.
The vehicle was found lodged in a gutter on Wednesday after floodwaters in the area began to recede.
Residents who inspected the stranded minibus reportedly made the grim discovery of the body inside.
Authorities have yet to identify the deceased or determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident.
Investigations are ongoing.
The discovery adds to the rising human toll from the recent floods, which submerged homes, roads and businesses across several communities in the Greater Accra Region.
Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak previously told Parliament that at least 12 people had died as a result of the flooding, with seven others reported missing as of Tuesday morning.
According to the Minister, the floods displaced 7,761 households and affected more than 38,000 people nationwide after hours of torrential rainfall overwhelmed drainage systems.
Emergency response teams and disaster management officials are continuing search, rescue and recovery operations, while assessing the full extent of damage in affected areas.
