Deputy Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama’s National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, describing it as a misplaced priority.
According to the lawmaker, the government should be focusing on addressing pressing national challenges rather than organising national thanksgiving events.
Mr. Shaib argued that while prayer is important, Ghanaians expect urgent action on issues affecting their livelihoods, including the economy, unemployment and infrastructure.
His comments come amid ongoing public debate over the relevance of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, which was held on July 1 under the theme, “Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want.”
The Minority MP maintained that government must prioritise practical solutions to the country’s challenges alongside any spiritual initiatives.
