Gordon Asare-Bediako has withdrawn from the race for the position of National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), throwing his support behind fellow contender Dennis Miracles Aboagye.
In a statement, Mr Asare-Bediako said the decision followed extensive consultations with his family, friends and stakeholders within the party, as well as personal reflection on what he described as the best interest of the NPP at a defining moment.
He said although his desire to help rebuild the party’s communication machinery and reposition the NPP for electoral success remained unchanged, he had concluded that unity of purpose was more important than competing ambitions.
“It is in this spirit that I am throwing my full and unreserved support behind Dennis Miracles Aboagye,” he said.
Mr Asare-Bediako described Mr Aboagye as a candidate with extensive experience in the party’s communication structures and frontline political advocacy.
He cited Mr Aboagye’s role as Spokesperson and Communications Director for the 2024 Bawumia Presidential Campaign, as well as his years of engagement in NPP communications, as evidence of his preparedness for the position.
According to Mr Asare-Bediako, Mr Aboagye possesses the courage, discipline, strategic depth and command of the party’s message required to lead its communications machinery.
He expressed confidence that Mr Aboagye would strengthen the NPP’s communication efforts and make the party’s messaging more effective.
Mr Asare-Bediako also appealed to delegates who had supported his candidature to transfer their support to Mr Aboagye.
He said the broader objective should be to help the NPP regain political power and restore hope to Ghanaians, rather than pursuing individual ambitions.
“Our mission is bigger than any individual ambition: it is the retrieval of power for the New Patriotic Party and the restoration of hope for the good people of Ghana,” he stated.
Despite withdrawing from the contest, Mr Asare-Bediako reaffirmed his commitment to the NPP and said he would continue serving the party in whatever capacity he was called upon.
He concluded by expressing his continued commitment to the party and extending goodwill to the NPP and Ghana.
