The Minority in Parliament has called for a Parliamentary Inquiry into the financial position of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) and losses associated with the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, the Minority said the reported losses were contained in an official report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and were not allegations originating from the opposition.
The statement followed a series of public comments made by GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, between August 17 and 22 in response to questions raised by the Minority concerning GoldBod’s finances and its administration of the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
According to the Minority, it had sought a full and transparent reconciliation between GoldBod’s audited financial statements and the losses identified in the IMF report.
It described the demand as a legitimate exercise of parliamentary oversight over a significant public programme and called for the matter to be addressed through facts and institutional scrutiny.
The Minority also criticised Mr Gyamfi for what it described as personal characterisations directed at some of its Members, including the Minority Leader, in the course of responding to the concerns.
The caucus said it would not respond to the alleged remarks in kind but rejected what it described as false allegations against its members.
It maintained that scrutiny of the operations and finances of a public institution was a fundamental part of democratic accountability and should not be portrayed as wrongdoing.
The Minority further urged public officials to uphold standards of civility, restraint and respect in the discharge of their duties, citing Ghana’s Code of Conduct and Ethics for political appointees.
It said it expected all public officials, including the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, to adhere to those standards and indicated that it would pursue appropriate institutional channels regarding the matter.
The Deputy Minority Leader and her colleagues, the statement said, remained committed to raising questions concerning the management of public assets in a factual and measured manner.
The caucus therefore called on GoldBod to appear before a Parliamentary Inquiry to account for the losses identified in the IMF report and reconcile them with the institution’s audited financial statements.
According to the Minority, such an inquiry would allow the issue to be settled on the basis of evidence and parliamentary scrutiny rather than public accusations from either side.
The caucus said it would continue to update the public as the matter progresses.
