Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has disclosed that government is yet to formally adopt the revised Kindergarten to Primary Six curriculum developed by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA),
The proposed curriculum, which was presented by NaCCA to the Education Ministry last month, is currently being reviewed by the Ghana Education Service (GES) before it is submitted to Cabinet for approval.
Speaking at the 73rd anniversary celebration of Great Apam Senior High School in the Central Region, Mr. Iddrisu said the review is intended to make basic education more responsive to the demands of the modern world.
“We are repositioning the curriculum for learners from KG to Primary Six, with emphasis on moral values. Classroom learning alone is not enough. Problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical skills and character building will be central to the curriculum.”
He said the revised curriculum would introduce emerging areas including Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, STEM, electronics and digital learning at the basic education level.
“I am happy to note that, under President Mahama’s Reset Agenda, we will introduce Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, as well as electronics and digital learning, at the basic foundation level.”
According to the Minister, integrating these areas into basic education will equip learners with the skills, creativity, critical-thinking abilities and values needed to compete in the 21st-century economy.
