The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in the Central Region has called on the government to fulfil its commitments to teachers and improve their conditions of service.
The Central Regional Chairman of GNAT, Godwin Andam, made the call during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration held under the theme, “Empowering Teachers, Architects of the Future.”
Mr Andam expressed concern about what he described as challenges surrounding teachers’ conditions of service, including the payment of the 13th-month bonus and other allowances.
He commended teachers for their contribution to national development despite the difficulties they face and urged the government to take steps to address their concerns.
Representing the Central Regional Minister at the celebration, the Assin Fosu Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Gariba Baba Adam, assured teachers of government’s commitment to addressing issues affecting their conditions of service.
He said government would engage the leadership of the teacher unions to review the conditions of service and find appropriate solutions to outstanding concerns.
Alhaji Gariba Baba Adam also appealed to teachers to return to the classrooms and ensure effective teaching and learning, stressing the need to prevent further disruption to the academic calendar.
The celebration also recognised the contributions of hardworking teachers, with awards presented to some teachers for their dedication and service to education.
Participants further took part in recreational activities, including football and volleyball, as part of the celebrations and to promote camaraderie among teachers.
