Drivers across the country have appealed to the government to provide temporary access routes on roads currently undergoing construction to reduce the difficulties they face in their daily operations.
The call comes as government road construction projects being undertaken under President John Dramani Mahama continue to progress in several parts of the country.
While commending the road projects, drivers say the absence of alternative access roads is making transportation difficult, affecting passenger movement and negatively impacting their earnings.
The National Public Relations Officer of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, Mr. David Agboado, said many drivers are struggling to navigate some road sections due to ongoing construction activities.
According to him, the situation has increased operational challenges for drivers, with some experiencing reduced income as a result of delays and difficulties accessing certain routes.
Mr. Agboado urged the authorities and contractors handling the projects to consider creating temporary access roads or alternative routes to allow drivers to continue operating smoothly while construction work progresses.
He stressed that drivers support the government’s efforts to improve road infrastructure but appealed for measures that would minimise the impact of construction works on transport operators and commuters.
The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana believes improved access arrangements during construction will help protect livelihoods while ensuring that ongoing road projects are completed successfully
