The Domestic Tax Revenue Division (DTRD) of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has closed the administration block of Electrochem Ghana Limited at Ada in the Greater Accra Region over an outstanding tax liability of GHS8.6 million.
The enforcement action forms part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to recover unpaid taxes and ensure compliance with Ghana’s tax laws.
Speaking to the media during the operation, the Area Enforcement Manager for Accra Central, Mr. Joseph Annan, disclosed that the Authority had earlier issued the company with an immediate demand notice on January 7, followed by a final demand notice on February 13 after the company failed to settle the tax debt.
According to the GRA, Electrochem Ghana Limited did not respond to the notices or honour its tax obligations, leaving the Authority with no option but to seal off the company’s administration block.
Mr. Annan further warned that should the outstanding amount remain unpaid, the Authority would proceed to lock the company’s main entrance after seven days, effectively preventing workers and customers from accessing the premises until the tax liability is cleared.
The Ghana Revenue Authority noted that the enforcement exercise is intended to promote voluntary tax compliance and serves as a strong reminder that businesses that fail to meet their tax obligations risk facing sanctions under the law.
