The Traditional Medicine Practice Council has intensified its crackdown on unregulated alternative medicine services, shutting down several facilities in Accra during a recent enforcement operation.
The exercise, which spanned 15 days, targeted operators in areas such as naturopathy, homeopathy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, herbal sales, and organic product outlets.
Authorities inspected over 500 premises, identifying multiple cases of non-compliance.
Head of Compliance at the Council, Michael Lawson, disclosed that at least eight facilities were closed as part of the operation, with additional herbal shops and spas also affected earlier in the year for operating without proper authorisation.
“So far since we started, we have closed about eight facilities,” he said.
According to the Council, the enforcement drive will be expanded beyond Accra as part of efforts to improve standards and safeguard public health.
Mr. Lawson stressed that the move is intended to ensure only qualified practitioners operate within the sector, urging clients to be cautious when seeking such services.
“The public needs to check some of these places when you seek such services if they have licences,” he advised.
