The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in the Madina-Adenta has raised alarm over what it describes as a growing trend of assaults on teachers within the Adenta Municipality.
This follows a recent incident at Bethel Presby JHS on April 8, 2026, where a teacher, Mohammed Abdela, was attacked by a former student and a group of young men after confronting him during a mock examination.
According to GNAT, the suspect had initially refused to leave the school premises and later returned to carry out the assault.
GNAT says the matter was reported to the Ghana Police Service, but no arrests had been made as of April 17, despite ongoing investigations.
“GNAT views the apparent delay and inaction by the police as a serious threat to the safety and security of teachers in the municipality,” the statement said.
The association is now demanding swift action, warning that teachers in the municipality will not resume work when schools reopen until the suspects are arrested and prosecuted.
“Teachers within the Adenta Municipality will not resume duty… until the culprits are arrested and arraigned before court,” GNAT cautioned.
