Bawku Central Member of Parliament and former Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, as Minister-designate for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
The nomination is part of changes made by the President to his ministerial team, with the names submitted to Parliament for prior approval in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.
A statement from the Presidency said: “President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Article 78(1), submitted the names of the following to Parliament, through the Speaker, for prior approval as Ministers of State.”
Mahama Ayariga’s nomination places him in charge of a ministry responsible for overseeing local governance structures, decentralisation efforts, chieftaincy matters and religious affairs.
As part of the reshuffle, President Mahama also reassigned Ahmed Ibrahim, Member of Parliament for Banda, to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
Ahmed Ibrahim previously served as Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs before his reassignment.
The latest ministerial changes also saw Kenneth Gilbert Adjei moved to the Ministry of Defence, while Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, was nominated as Minister-designate for the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.
The nominees will now await parliamentary vetting and approval before officially assuming their respective portfolios.
