The bodies of two persons believed to have died in the recent floods have been recovered at Adakope near Weija in the Weija- Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The remains were discovered on the evening of Thursday, July 2.
Confirming the incident, the Presiding Member of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Wilfred Ayitey Blankson, said the victims are suspected to have been swept away by floodwaters during the recent heavy rains.
According to him, the bodies have been transported by the police to the Police Hospital mortuary in Accra for preservation and further investigations.
The latest discovery has heightened concerns over the recurring flooding in the municipality, which continues to threaten lives, destroy property and disrupt livelihoods during periods of heavy rainfall.
Mr. Blankson appealed to the Ministry of Local Government to provide the Assembly with urgent financial support to implement measures aimed at addressing the persistent flooding in the area.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced that government will begin distributing relief items to flood-affected communities nationwide from Saturday, July 4.
The intervention forms part of government’s ongoing efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to victims and support recovery in communities affected by the recent floods.
