The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has ordered the closure of Okuapeman Senior High School and Mount Sinai Senior High School in the Akuapem North Municipality following reprisal attacks that resulted in the destruction of several school structures.
The decision comes after violent clashes linked to the two schools, which reportedly led to damage to school property and disrupted academic activities.
Six students of Okuapeman Senior High School were hospitalised following the incidents and are receiving medical attention.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has also indicated that students found to have participated in the attacks will face the appropriate disciplinary consequences.
The closure is expected to provide the authorities with an opportunity to restore calm and assess the extent of damage to the affected schools while measures are put in place to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The authorities are urging students, parents and other stakeholders to remain calm as investigations and efforts to resolve the situation continue.
