The National Service Authority (NSA) has announced a new partnership with Absa Bank Ghana and the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) to provide an overdraft facility for National Service Personnel (NSPs) across the country.
The initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden caused by delays in the monthly disbursement of service allowances.
In a statement on Friday, April 17, 2026, the Director-General of the National Service Authority, Ruth Dela Seddoh, said the intervention responds directly to concerns raised by personnel.
“We hear the frustration of our service personnel, and we are taking concrete action. Delays in release of funds have, at times, placed hardship on young graduates serving their nation,” she said.
She added that the collaboration, facilitated by NASPA, is designed to ensure that personnel are not left stranded due to payment delays.
“This NSA partnership with Absa Bank facilitated by the National Service Personnel Association, who played a pivotal role in brokering the collaboration and represented the collective concerns of personnel across all regions, will ensure that no NSP will be left stranded due to timing mismatches between their service and their allowance,” she stated.
Under the arrangement, Absa Bank Ghana will provide eligible NSPs with an overdraft facility of up to 85 percent of their monthly allowance, allowing them to access funds ahead of payment.
The facility comes with several benefits, including zero interest during the delay period, no collateral requirements, and automatic repayment once allowances are released.
Managing Director of Absa Bank Ghana, Edward Nartey Botchway, said the initiative is intended to cushion young graduates facing financial challenges.
“At Absa, we understand how allowance delays can put real pressure on young graduates, especially when they are trying to cover basics such as rent and transport,” he said.
“This collaboration with the National Service Authority and the National Service Personnel Association aims to bridge that gap and ensure that a delay in disbursement does not become a crisis for our national service personnel,” he added.
The facility is available to all active NSPs who hold an Absa Ignition Account, a youth-focused account that offers zero maintenance fees and other benefits.
The NSA reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery and ensuring timely payment of allowances while supporting personnel contributing to national development.
