The President of the Ghana Retired Footballers Welfare Association and Chief Executive Officer of One God Forever Limited, Mohammed Elias, has been enstooled as the Sarkin Samari Zongo (Muslim Youth Chief) of the Tema Muslim Community.
The coronation ceremony brought together the Chief Imam, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, traditional authorities, youth groups, community leaders and residents.
Two deputy youth chiefs were also installed to support the new leadership in promoting the development of the Muslim youth in Tema.
In his acceptance speech, Mohammed Elias expressed gratitude to the community for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to serve with humility, integrity and a strong commitment to youth development.
He identified youth unemployment as a major challenge confronting the community, stating that addressing it would be a key priority of his leadership.
He said he would leverage his network across government institutions, the private sector and development partners to help create employment opportunities for young people in Zongo communities.
“The youth are the backbone of every community. When they are empowered with jobs and opportunities, development naturally follows,” he said.
He further pledged to collaborate with traditional and religious leaders to roll out programmes focused on skills training, entrepreneurship development and social empowerment.
At the ceremony, Hon. Sumaila Adjetey Agaby was also installed as the Sarki Yaaki of the Tema Muslim Community.
He highlighted challenges facing Zongo communities, including poor road infrastructure, inadequate school facilities and limited access to basic social services, calling for collective efforts to address them.
The spokesperson for the Tema Traditional Council, Nii Armah Somponu, congratulated the newly installed leaders and urged them to provide visionary leadership that would translate into tangible development for the community.
