President John Dramani Mahama is expected to open the new Damang District Office of the Minerals Commission in the Western Region today, Monday, August 17, 2026.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at 10:00 a.m. and will be attended by government officials, representatives of the Minerals Commission, traditional leaders, stakeholders in the mining industry and residents of the area.
The new district office is expected to strengthen the Minerals Commission’s presence in the Damang area and improve the decentralisation of services and regulatory oversight within the mining sector.
The establishment of the office is also expected to enhance monitoring of mining activities, facilitate engagement with mining communities and improve coordination between the Commission, mining companies and other stakeholders.
President Mahama is scheduled to lead the ceremony as part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen institutions responsible for regulating Ghana’s mineral resources and ensuring that mining contributes effectively to national development.
The Damang area is one of Ghana’s major mining centres in the Western Region, making the presence of a dedicated Minerals Commission office significant to the regulation and monitoring of mining activities in the area.
The opening forms part of government’s ongoing efforts to bring public services and regulatory institutions closer to communities across the country.
