President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the first 700 housing units at the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project in the Greater Accra Region are expected to be completed and unveiled by March 2027.
He further set a target of completing a total of 1,500 units by the end of 2027 as government intensifies efforts to revive the long-delayed housing project.
President Mahama announced the timelines on Thursday, August 20, 2026, during a tour of the Saglemi housing project to assess ongoing works and efforts to make the residential community fully operational.
The President said measures were being taken to address challenges that had stalled the project, including the reported theft of electrical cables and other infrastructure.
He assured prospective homeowners that steps were being implemented to protect the facilities and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
President Mahama also encouraged prospective beneficiaries to prepare to register once the official application portal is opened.
“When the portal is open, those who want to move to the beautiful home should register,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of LMI Holdings, Kojo Aduhene, said significant infrastructure works were ongoing across the estate.
He explained that the works included underground cabling, clearing overgrown vegetation and improving the water supply system.
According to Mr Aduhene, a water treatment plant located in the Dawa Industrial Area has sufficient capacity to supply the housing units.
“We’re doing all the underground cabling, clearing the weeds, and water will not be a problem because we’ve got a water plant ready in the Dawa Industrial Area and it’s enough to supply water for all the units,” he said.
He added that internet connectivity would also be provided across the estate to enable residents to access essential digital services.
The Saglemi Affordable Housing Project, situated along the Accra–Aflao highway, has remained largely unoccupied for several years despite the completion of a number of housing units.
Government has renewed efforts to complete and operationalise the project as part of measures to increase access to affordable housing and help address the country’s housing deficit.
