The Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) has commenced its 4th International Educational Seminar aimed at strengthening the capacity of insurance professionals to improve service delivery and provide better support to clients, particularly during times of disaster.
The three-day seminar is focused on equipping industry players with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively to emerging challenges while enhancing public confidence in the insurance sector.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of Bedrock Insurance Limited and Chairman of the GIA Public Relations and External Liaison Committee, Ernest Frimpong, said the programme was critical to repositioning the insurance industry and improving its visibility among Ghanaians.
He explained that many people are often uncertain about the steps to take when disasters occur, especially in relation to filing and processing insurance claims.
Mr. Frimpong cited recent flood incidents in parts of the country as an example, noting that affected persons are sometimes left without adequate information on how to access insurance support.
According to him, the seminar will provide a platform for industry stakeholders to discuss ways of making insurance services more accessible, responsive, and customer-focused.
He stressed the need for insurers to build trust by ensuring timely claims processing and offering guidance to policyholders during difficult periods.
The discussions during the seminar are expected to focus on key areas including claims management, customer education, professional conduct, and strategies to strengthen the role of insurance within Ghana’s financial services sector.
The GIA said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to promote an insurance industry that is trusted, relevant, and capable of supporting individuals, businesses, and communities in times of need.
