The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has released GHS2.6 billion to Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs) to facilitate payments to cocoa farmers across the country’s cocoa-growing regions.
In a statement issued on July 2, 2026, COCOBOD said the funds are intended to ensure that farmers receive payments for cocoa purchases and to clear outstanding debts owed to them.
According to the Board, it has so far disbursed a total of GHS34.52 billion to Licensed Buying Companies since the start of the 2025/26 cocoa crop season for onward payment to cocoa farmers.
Out of the newly released GHS2.6 billion, approximately GHS1.4 billion has been earmarked to settle the remaining balances owed by Licensed Buying Companies to farmers who supplied cocoa on credit.
COCOBOD said it is working closely with the buying companies to ensure that all affected farmers receive their outstanding payments promptly.
It added that monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to guarantee that the funds reach the intended beneficiaries.
The Board acknowledged the patience and resilience demonstrated by cocoa farmers during the payment delays and assured them that every farmer who legitimately sold cocoa through the approved purchasing system would be paid.
It encouraged farmers with outstanding payments to contact the Licensed Buying Company through which they sold their cocoa for updates on their payments.
COCOBOD said the release of the funds reflects the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of cocoa farmers and maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s cocoa industry.
The Board also reaffirmed its commitment to working with government and industry stakeholders to strengthen the cocoa value chain, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and ensure the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector.
COCOBOD expressed appreciation to cocoa farmers for their continued dedication and contribution to the country’s economy.
