The University of Ghana has announced significant increases in academic fees for the 2025/2026 academic year, with hikes of over 25 percent across all colleges, sparking public outrage and concern among students and parents.
A provisional fee schedule shows that both fresh and continuing students will pay substantially higher amounts, although the university has not yet formally explained the increases.
At the College of Humanities, Level 100 students will pay GH¢3,110, up from GH¢2,319 last year, while continuing students’ fees have risen to GH¢2,253.
Similar adjustments have been recorded at the School of Law and other colleges, including Health Sciences, Basic and Applied Sciences, and Education. Third-party charges have also risen sharply, contributing significantly to the overall increase.
Meanwhile, the fee hikes have triggered widespread criticism, with many students, parents, and civil society voices calling on the government to intervene to prevent further financial strain on families.
