Duncan Amoah, the Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), is hosting a party today at the Green Lounge Pub in Tema Community 9 for constituency executives from Tema Central, Tema West, and Tema East. Officially, the event is to thank the executives for their efforts before, during, and after the 2024 elections, in which the NDC swept all parliamentary seats in the Tema enclave.
However, credible sources suggest that the gathering is part of a calculated effort by Amoah to bolster his standing within the NDC and position himself for an appointment as the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) boss in John Dramani Mahama’s incoming government.
A Tema West executive, speaking anonymously, confirmed receiving an invitation and expressed curiosity about Amoah’s intentions. “I don’t know Duncan Amoah or his affiliation with the NDC, but I’ll attend to hear what he has to say,” the executive remarked.
The rumor of Amoah lobbying for the NPA position has gained traction since the NDC’s electoral victory. Supporters of Amoah argue that he has contributed significantly to the party’s success, citing his alleged fundraising efforts during the Arise Ghana project. One associate claimed that Amoah raised over GHS 500,000 to support the initiative.
However, these claims have been disputed. A member of the Arise Ghana group downplayed Amoah’s role, describing him as a mere participant without significant financial contributions.
Today’s party appears to be part of a broader strategy by Amoah to create the impression that he has worked tirelessly for the NDC and, therefore, merits a top appointment.
