Aggrieved customers of the defunct gold dealership, Menzgold Ghana Limited, have renewed calls for President John Dramani Mahama to intervene in efforts to recover their locked-up investments, insisting that government action is urgently needed to ease the plight of affected customers.
The group says it is relying on what it describes as a pre-election commitment by President Mahama to support victims of the collapsed company in recovering their funds.
Speaking to the media after court proceedings involving Menzgold Chief Executive Officer Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1, Convener of the aggrieved customers, Frederick Forson, expressed concern over the prolonged delay in resolving the matter.
According to him, many customers continue to suffer severe financial and emotional hardship as a result of their inability to access their investments, warning that further delays could have devastating consequences for some victims.
Mr Forson disclosed that the group has issued the government a 21-day ultimatum to provide an account of what they claim is GHS5.4 million allegedly left behind by the previous administration in connection with efforts to settle the claims of affected customers.
Meanwhile, Nana Appiah Mensah has begun his cross-examination after completing his evidence-in-chief in the ongoing criminal trial related to the collapse of Menzgold.
The embattled businessman is facing charges linked to the operations of the company, which collapsed after regulatory authorities ordered it to halt its gold trading activities.
The case has attracted significant public interest, with thousands of customers still seeking the recovery of their investments several years after the company’s shutdown.
