The President of the Dorfor Traditional Council, Togbe Manklalo Agbohla VI, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to facilitate the construction of a district hospital and the creation of a new district in the North Tongu area of the Volta Region.
The appeal was made during the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the 24-hour economy market at Juapong, which was performed by President Mahama.
According to Togbe Manklalo Agbohla VI, the North Tongu District urgently requires a modern and well-equipped hospital to meet the growing healthcare needs of residents in the area.
He noted that the absence of a befitting healthcare facility has made access to quality medical care difficult for many people and called on the government to prioritise the project.
The traditional ruler also advocated the creation of a new district to improve local governance and accelerate development within the area.
He explained that the growing population in parts of the district has made the establishment of an additional administrative area necessary to ensure efficient delivery of public services and development projects.
Togbe Manklalo Agbohla VI proposed that the new district, if approved, should be named the Upper Tongu District.
He expressed optimism that the government would give favourable consideration to the requests in the interest of improving the welfare and development of the people of North Tongu.
