The Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), Simon Madjie, has urged staff of the Authority to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during a five-day investment promotion workshop to strengthen Ghana’s competitiveness in attracting foreign direct investment.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Investment Promotion Capacity-Building Workshop for GIPA staff in Accra, Mr Madjie said the training was designed to equip participants with modern investment promotion strategies and best practices expected of leading investment promotion agencies worldwide.
He noted that participants had received training in key areas including strategic investment promotion, investment intelligence, investor facilitation, stakeholder engagement, investment targeting, investment negotiation, investor aftercare, investment marketing and effective communication.
According to him, the programme was intended to enhance the professional capacity of staff and deepen their understanding of the critical role they play in promoting Ghana as an investment destination.
Mr Madjie observed that the global competition for foreign direct investment has become increasingly intense, making it necessary for Ghana to continuously improve its investment promotion efforts.
“The global investment landscape has become very competitive.
Ghana is competing with many other countries for foreign direct investment, and investors today have more choices than ever before,” he said.
He encouraged staff to view the workshop not as the end of their learning journey but as the beginning of a renewed commitment to professional excellence and continuous improvement.
The GIPC Chief Executive urged participants to apply the lessons learned in innovative ways within their respective roles and to share knowledge with colleagues to improve institutional performance and service delivery.
He particularly challenged staff in regional offices to take advantage of their positions to aggressively promote investment opportunities within their regions and serve as ambassadors for the Authority.
Mr Madjie stressed that investors’ perceptions of Ghana are shaped by their interactions with GIPA staff, underscoring the importance of professionalism, responsiveness and commitment in all engagements.
He also reaffirmed management’s commitment to investing in staff development to equip employees with the capabilities required to deliver on the Authority’s expanded mandate.
Mr Madjie expressed appreciation to the German Development Agency (GIZ) for supporting the training programme and thanked the facilitators for sharing their expertise and practical experience with participants.
