Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has dismissed reports suggesting he has resigned from his position following Ghana’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speculation about the Portuguese trainer’s future intensified after he shared a message on social media expressing gratitude for the opportunity to lead Ghana at the tournament, with many interpreting the post as a farewell message and indication of his departure.
The Black Stars’ World Cup campaign came to an end in the Round of 32 after a defeat to Colombia, having finished third in their group during the tournament.
Following the team’s exit, Queiroz publicly thanked players, officials and supporters for the opportunity to manage the national team on football’s biggest stage.
However, the experienced coach has clarified that the message was not a resignation announcement.
“I didn’t resign. I sent a message of gratitude,” Queiroz said in a video circulating on social media during an interaction with a supporter.
Queiroz was appointed on a four-month contract by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) ahead of the World Cup, with the agreement expected to expire in August 2026.
The GFA is expected to review his tenure and assess the team’s performance at the tournament before making a decision on the future of the coaching role.
