The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has officially launched the 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration, highlighting the critical role of farmers in Ghana’s food security and national development.
The event, themed “Our Farmers, Our Food, Our Future,” underscores the importance of agriculture as the foundation of the country’s economic growth and long-term prosperity. According to the Minister, the theme reflects the strong link between agricultural production, national food security and sustainable development.
He emphasized that the future of Ghana is closely tied to the strength and support of its farmers, noting that investment in agriculture today is essential to securing the nation’s food systems and ensuring resilience for future generations.
The 2026 celebration is scheduled for Friday, December 4, and will be preceded by a week-long programme of activities.
These include a National Agricultural Fair running from November 30 to December 4, culminating in the grand durbar and national awards ceremony.
The Minister noted that the annual event serves as a reminder of the need to prioritise agriculture in national development planning, warning that neglecting the sector could undermine food security and overall progress.
He added that building a self-sufficient and prosperous Ghana depends on sustained investment in agriculture, innovation, and support for farmers across the country.
