The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has launched a strategic partnership with Green Shift Initiative Africa (GSI) aimed at promoting the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and advancing sustainable mobility solutions within the university community.
The partnership was officially unveiled on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Council Chamber of UEW during a ceremony attended by the university’s management and representatives of Green Shift Initiative Africa.
The initiative seeks to increase awareness among staff and students about the economic, environmental and operational benefits of Electric Vehicles while supporting efforts to transition towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation options.
As part of the collaboration, the two institutions will facilitate access to Electric Vehicle ownership through partnerships with financial institutions and EV dealerships, creating opportunities for interested members of the university community to acquire Electric Vehicles under flexible arrangements.
A major highlight of the partnership will be an Electric Vehicle Exhibition scheduled for July 16 and 17, 2026, on the UEW campus.
The exhibition will provide staff, students and the wider public with the opportunity to explore a range of Electric Vehicle models, engage directly with dealers and financial institutions, and gain insights into available financing and purchase options.
Participants will also be able to test-drive selected vehicles and learn more about the role of electric mobility in reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability.
University officials and representatives of Green Shift Initiative Africa expressed optimism that the partnership would contribute significantly to increasing awareness and acceptance of Electric Vehicles while supporting Ghana’s broader agenda for green transportation and climate-friendly development.
