Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged young women to use their digital skills to develop solutions to challenges in their communities and create opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship.
She made the call at the graduation ceremony for Cohort 5 of the Tech4Girls programme, organised by the Heritage and Cultural Society of Africa (HACSA) Foundation in Accra.
The ceremony, held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, brought together 80 young women who completed the programme, which provides training in digital skills, coding and other technology-related areas.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang said initiatives such as Tech4Girls were important in ensuring that girls and young women had a meaningful place in Ghana’s digital future.
She said young people should not only acquire technological skills but also be equipped to apply those skills to solve real-world problems, establish businesses and transition into sustainable employment.
According to the Vice President, government is pursuing similar objectives through initiatives including the One Million Coders Programme and the Young Women in ICT Programme, alongside partnerships aimed at expanding access to digital training and employment opportunities.
She noted that technology would continue to evolve, but the ability of young people to think critically, adapt and solve problems would remain essential.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang therefore encouraged the graduates to look beyond the acquisition of technical knowledge and identify challenges within their communities that could be addressed through technology and innovation.
“Identify challenges in our communities and use your knowledge to develop solutions,” she urged the graduates.
The Vice President congratulated the graduates and commended HACSA’s leadership, staff, partners, parents and guardians for contributing to the development of opportunities for young women.
HACSA’s Tech4Girls programme is a hands-on initiative that trains girls and women in ICT, coding and Artificial Intelligence, while also providing exposure to entrepreneurship, leadership and other skills relevant to careers in STEM.
The graduation formed part of activities marking HACSA’s 10th anniversary and coincided with the launch of the organisation’s 2026 Sankofa Summit.
